Vaasa Game Days (VGD) is postponed to 2021 as University of Vaasa has restricted the use of its premises due to corona COVID-19 virus. Therefore large events, like VGD, cannot be held in the campus area in 2020.

One of the new machines this year is R-Type, and of course it can be played at the event. The game is a side scrolling SHMUP and it was released in 1987. In R-Type you control a R-9 spacecraft designed to protect the mankind from mysterious aliens. Can the world be saved from these aliens? This is now up to the VGD's visitors!
Gamified learning is one of the learning forms that is becoming more common in higher education. Gamification can be defined as using game design elements in contexts that are not game-based. (Deterding, Dixon, Khaled, & Nacke, 2011.) It is important that the game-based elements support the core content in learning and bring added value to it.

The best and the most profitable arcade sport game, NBA Jam, join the VGD’s ever growing collection of games. You can play it during this year’s event for free – of course. NBA Jam was released in 1993 and it’s an over the top arcade style basketball in 2 v 2 format. The game has been ported to almost all different platforms after its release but the original arcade version is still the best.

VGD and Pohjalainen will open a pop-up arcade in November in Pohjalainen’s Monitori premises. Arcade opens on Wednesday 9.11. and closes on 18.11. Opening hours are on weekdays from 9 to 16 (closed during the weekend). On Friday, 11.11. and Wednesday, 16.11. the Arcade is open until 20:00. The event is free of charge and machines can be played at no cost.
Pixel monsters from Space Invaders have been the mascots for VGD from the beginning. The game was launched in 1978 and it's one of the most iconic & most wanted arcade cabinets ever. Well...
